It was an unusual year for TNB Young Company, to say the least. After more than 40 years of annual touring, this year’s company was left unable to follow the path of previous years. Health restrictions and the constant shifts in precautionary actions resulted in an unfortunate postponement of the longstanding partnership between Theatre New Brunswick and many schools across the province.
But it wasn’t like we didn’t see this coming. Our 2020 tour was cut short after the country went into lockdown in March and for the most part, we’ve been walking a fine line of “stop, go and cross your fingers” ever since. Knowing that we wouldn’t be able to bring live performances into schools across New Brunswick this year, our 2021 Young Company team led by directors Sharisse LeBrun and Courtney Arsenault used the opportunity to explore new forms of engagement and creative learning that will undoubtedly help shape future seasons as we make our way into a post-pandemic world.
Part of this year’s creative process involved a lot of collective creation and video experimentation, resulting in several short pieces, each captured on film by guest videographer Gregor Dobson.
The Myth is one of the short theatre pieces our team created, this time using shadow puppetry and some fun lighting techniques above a score by Dawson Sacobie. Enjoy.
Our 2021 TNB Young Company was Anthony Bryan, Jillian Hanson, Lara Lewis, Robbie Lynn, Naomi McGowan, Alex Rioux, Dawson Sacobie and Ryan Tapley with directors Sharisse LeBrun and Courtney Arsenault.
