A Beginner’s Guide to the Night Sky

A Beginner’s Guide to the Night Sky takes place in an astronomy class, and moves through music, memory, and magic to teach us about what we can see from our tiny place in the universe.

This playful and touching play invites the audience to join a nighttime astronomy class, taught by eclectic high school teacher Albertine and her awkward, yet earnest child, Léo. Inviting the audience to enjoy the night sky, learn about the universe, and sing a capella songs together, the play is an hour-long piece of magic that is simultaneously heartbreaking, uplifting, and full of joy.

This new award-nominated Villain’s Theatre production is written by Colleen Arcturus MacIsaac with music by Jenny Trites, directed by Garry Williams, and starring Rooks Field-Green and Geneviève Steel. A Beginner’s Guide to the Night Sky has been called a “triumph” (Wayves Magazine), and “an enchanting play…deeply moving” (NS Reviews).
