Original radio adaptations of Frankenstein – The Man Who Became God, The Incredible Murder of Cardinal Tosca, The Dollar Woman and Svengali are now available for streaming.
During the 1970s, the writing partnership of Alden Nowlan and Walter Learning led to the creation of four original scripts. Of these, Frankenstein – The Man Who Became God, The Incredible Murder of Cardinal Tosca and The Dollar Woman were eventually produced for the stage by Theatre New Brunswick. A fourth play, Svengali, was never produced.
All four of these plays were adapted for radio and produced in Halifax and Toronto by CBC. These recordings, recently made available through the internet archive site Archive.org, offer a window into Theatre New Brunswick’s early history, the once busy world of CBC radio dramas and the important creative partnership that existed between Nowlan and Learning.
